About Us
* Note: Function Stacking is one my favorite permaculture principles. This blog post is an example of function stacking. I am doing only one task, writing, but stacking it to serve three functions, 1) developing writing skills and organizing my thoughts, 2) producing a blog post, and 3) writing an, About Us, page for my website. If I were also podcasting or writing a book, then it could potentially serve a fourth function.
When something serves many functions, it means that that thing or activity is likely well-integrated into the broader picture and can be counted on to stick around and produce results. When something does not serve multiple functions, then it is less likely to be useful enough to stick around for the long haul, because it is more likely forced and not well integrated into the larger picture. Stacked functions indicate that a puzzle piece fits well into the larger picture. Let’s take a dog for example.
Scenario 1) Rudo the doggo is acquired for one function, to bark at strangers to serve as a deterrent against unwanted visitors. He is confined to a 10×10 dog kennel. He does his job and barks, but over time, the coons learn that he’s confined and they carry-on once again eating chicken eggs and chickens, and stealing cat food. The thieves who have been watching the habits of the property-owners have noticed that nobody cares that the dog is barking because the dog barks all the time anyway (a symptom of being confined), and they know that everybody is away from the home between certain hours every weekday. So they too, carry on thieving away. Rudo receives no love because he stinks from being confined. He lives a miserable life and so does Rudo’s owners. Why? because Rudo was not well integrated and was only serving one function. In the end, Rudo was taken to the pound because nobody wanted him.
Scenario 2) Judo the doggo, was just like Rudo, but better placed and served multiple functions. Judo got to reign over the whole property and was not confined to a dog kennel. The coons could not get to the chickens because Judo kept killing them anytime they tried. The other livestock were protected from coyotes as well. Judo got lovin’s everyday from his owners because, since he was not confined to a dog kennel, he did not stink. The thieves never stole again either, because they knew Judo would kill them if they tried, so they never tried. For doing his job well, Judo would get a chicken egg every time chicken eggs were collected.
The difference? Rudo was all bark and no bite. He was not well integrated and could only serve one function; to sound the alarm. But Judo? Judo could sound the alarm AND go on the attack and kill, plus he didn’t stink and so he brought companionship to the relationship as well. Rudo served one function. Judo served 3. Same dog, different context. One was well integrated, and the other was not. Be like Judo. By the way, this concept can, and should be applied to us humans as well. I believe most, if not all, of our excessive anxieties, stress, depression, and other psycho-emotional distress/disease is a result of us not being well-integrated into our environments individually, as well as ass-backwards destructive and perverse systems implemented at the societal nation-state level.

Core Beliefs:
*Note: my wife convinced me that this segment was too much for an about us page, so I removed it from the About Us page, but left it here in the blog version for all you lucky blog readers.
It is the individual that is responsible for his resiliency and sovereignty. And when we abdicate responsibility, we simultaneously relinquish our sovereignty and independence. It is my belief that it is the responsibility of the individual to provide for himself, his well-being, food security, and protection. These are not responsibilities that can be outsourced to the State nor blindly handed over to be mechanized by industrial corporations. By taking responsibility for our own needs, we secure and protect our freedom and sovereignty. Those who are needy, are dependent and vulnerable to tyranny. We believe in Personal Responsibility, Self-reliance, and Independence, and we aspire to be a source of inspiration and information for others to embody these values of self-reliance as well.
